Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the Alaska Press Club?

A. The Alaska Press Club is an independent professional organization that provides continuing education, recognition and information to reporters across the state. The nonprofit, volunteer-led club hosts an annual journalism contest and organizes two major events each year: a three-day journalism conference and an awards banquet, held the final day of the conference.

Q. I want to enter the contest. When will new contest entry forms and membership renewal forms be available?

A. Entry forms are usually mailed to members the last week in November and available online by December. If you are unable to find a current entry form, contact any board member.

Q. When is the contest deadline this year?

A. Contest entries must be postmarked by January 20, 2007.

Q. When is J-Week?

A. We're now calling it the Alaska Press Club Journalism Conference. For 2007, it'll be April 19-21, at the Anchorage Hilton. For updated information as it is available, see the conference page.

Q. OK, so what's going on at this year's J-, I mean, the Alaska Press Club Journalism Conference?

A. The conference encompasses dozens of concurrent events, and so is often not completely finalized until shortly before the event. You can usually find the most current information at the conference page. We also send members e-mail updates as events are set. If you still have not heard anything by the beginning of April, you should check in with a board member.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. The conference is free for members, though the banquet is an additional charge. Detailed information is on the conference page.

Q. I have more questions. Who can I contact?

A. If you have further questions, you may contact any current press club board member. Names and contact information are available here.
